The 'mukluk' is an Aboriginal word for 'winter boot'. Our ancestors created them thousands of years ago out of natural hides and fur in order to survive in the coldest places in Canada. This Tall Métis Mukluk is the most iconic mukluk style and has been passed down to us from generation to generation. Now as a contemporary Métis company, we continue the tradition by combining modern techniques and materials to make functional mukluks for urban environments. The footbed is sheepskin-lined and the sole was made in partnership between Vibram and an Aboriginal artist.

The Métis Mukluk is also part of our Signature Collection that features traditional Métis floral beadwork. Métis women were inspired by a mix of European folk art and expert Aboriginal beadwork, so they wove floral patterns into everyday life. For that reason, floral patterns became a defining cultural symbol for Métis people. We're proud to keep that tradition alive!
